The Titanic slowly makes her way through a field of icebergs that gets denser the deeper she goes. (Titanic – The Hidden Evidenc)

A Sample From “Titanic – The Hidden Evidence”

“Titanic: The Hidden Evidence“ reveals for the first time what really happened to the Titanic and Senator William Alden Smith’s determined effort to expose the truth about it. The fast-paced, narrative non-fiction account uses actual recorded dialog and testimony whenever possible and draws heavily from firsthand accounts of survivors.

The author, John Wickman, is an aerospace engineer who established a reputation for finding the cause of engineering failures from investigating the Space Shuttle Challenger accident and other high profile cases. His book is based on eight years of research that drew on eyewitness accounts, official testimony, newspaper stories, photographs, and videos of the wreckage, as well as analysis of the Titanic’s design to provide the most accurate and complete picture of the what caused the Titanic accident.

New Evidence Reveals for the First Time

  • The Titanic was only going half speed or less at the time of the accident, not full speed as widely believed.
  • The Titanic sailed to America with unfinished rooms, missing equipment and watertight doors that did not always close.
  • The Titanic’s senior wireless operator saw an iceberg off to the side of the Titanic 10 minutes before the accident as he delivered the Californian’s last ice message to the bridge.
  • The Titanic was already turning away from the iceberg when the lookout called the bridge to report an iceberg.
  • How the Titanic would have stayed afloat for at least 24 hours if not for the first hydrogen gas explosion.

“Titanic – The Hidden Evidence” reveals startling evidence that the collision with an iceberg did not lead to the Titanic’s sinking; rather it was a series of subsequent explosions. The initial damage to the Titanic was minimal enough for the Titanic to have remained floating for at least 24 hours – long enough for every survivor to be rescued.

Unfortunately, the Titanic’s engineers did not know to cut the electrical power to the submerged sections of the ship and the electricity began to convert seawater into large quantities of both hydrogen and poisonous chlorine gas through a process called electrolysis. It was only a matter of time until a simple spark or flame ignited the hydrogen gas causing an explosion that blew a hole in the side of the ship.

Wickman’s conclusions are supported by the Titanic wreckage. The starboard hole in the Titanic’s bow shows the metal is bulged by an explosion. The steel decks above and below the hole, centered on the gangway door, have been destroyed by a powerful explosion. Multiple eyewitnesses also describe hearing and seeing explosions. A few passengers described the first explosion as so severe that the entire ship moved sideways knocking many people off their feet. At the time, their stories were dismissed because no one knew the source of the explosions. Now we do! Watch the video below and see for yourself.

Looking at the Titanic wreckage shows a large hole centered around the Gangway door on Deck E. What really stands out is how the hull has bulged outward from an explosive blast. This bulge is not seen on the opposite side of the ship.

A close-up view of the hole shows the bulged area in more detail. You can also see how the decks inside are undeformed as an entire section of the E deck floor is missing as well as the deck plates above and below. The missing deck plates were blown away during the explosion.

Myth That The Titanic Was Slow To Turn

One of the Titanic myths is that it took a long time for the ship to turn at full speed. Every movie shows the Titanic’s helm wheel turned hard over as the crew and officers wait and wait for the ship to turn away from the iceberg. In fact, the Titanic was extremely maneuverable as were all the Olympic class ships.

Here is the reality as a photograph taken on the Titanic shows the testing of its compasses as it makes tight turns at full speed to port and starboard. The Titanic’s wake clearly shows was able to turn almost 90 degrees in a very short distance. Its stern actually slides sideways as the ship makes the turn. Credit: Fr FM Browne SJ Collection.

About the Author - John Wickman

John Wickman has been an aerospace engineer since 1973. He has designed propulsion systems for the MX missile, Small Launch Vehicle, rocket and jet engines for use on Mars, rocket engines using lunar soil propellant and solid propellant satellite thrusters. During his career, Mr. Wickman established a reputation for finding the cause of engineering failures and identifying the solution. He did this for the Minuteman ICBM and Polaris missiles, which lead to re-manufacturing programs for both of them. After the Space Shuttle Challenger accident, Wickman was hired by Morton-Thiokol to find out why the solid rocket boosters failed and provide guidelines for the new design. His engineering experience was crucial in analyzing the Titanic blueprints, wreckage and sifting through eyewitness accounts and documents to determine the factual reasons for the Titanic sinking.
